Say Bye to Unwanted Fat

Stubborn fullness beneath the chin can be difficult to reduce with diet, exercise, or topical treatments alone. Kybella® injections offer a non-surgical injectable option to reduce submental fat (commonly known as a double chin) and improve definition along the chin and neck.

At Metamorphosis Holistic MedSpa, care is provided under the clinical oversight of Dr. Desiree Wood, DNP, ARNP, AGPCNP-BC, a board-certified nurse practitioner with over 15 years of experience in adult and acute care medicine. The clinical team includes Christopher Kepler, an aesthetic nurse and laser and skin specialist with a background in dermatology and advanced aesthetic procedures. Each treatment plan is customized to address individual concerns and support natural-looking results over time.

What Is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to reduce fat beneath the chin. Its active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that helps break down dietary fat.

When injected into targeted fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells. Once those cells are treated, the body gradually processes and clears them, leading to a noticeable reduction in fullness over time.

What Kybella Can Treat

Kybella is primarily used to reduce submental fullness beneath the chin. This can help create a more defined profile and improve the transition between the jawline, chin, and neck.

Kybella may be used to address:

  • Double chin fullness
  • Mild to moderate fat beneath the chin
  • Softness along the upper neck
  • Jawline definition concerns related to small fat deposits

Kybella is FDA-approved for submental fat. In some cases, providers may discuss off-label use for small, localized fat deposits in other areas, such as the jowls, stomach, arms, or legs. Off-label treatment requires careful evaluation because larger areas may need more product, more sessions, and different recovery expectations.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Kybella?

Kybella may be a good option for patients with localized fat beneath the chin who want a non-surgical alternative to liposuction or a neck lift. It is best suited for patients with realistic expectations and enough skin elasticity to allow the area to improve as fullness decreases.

Candidates may be appropriate if they:

  • Have fullness beneath the chin caused by fat
  • Want a non-surgical treatment option
  • Are comfortable with swelling during recovery
  • Understand that multiple sessions may be needed
  • Prefer gradual improvement over time

Kybella may not be the best option if the main concern is loose skin, prominent neck bands, or significant skin laxity. A consultation helps determine whether Kybella or another treatment would better match the patient's goals.

How Many Kybella Sessions Are Needed?

The number of Kybella sessions depends on the amount of fat being treated, the treatment area, and the desired outcome. Most patients need 2 to 4 sessions, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Some patients may need up to six sessions for optimal results. Off-label treatment areas may require more vials or sessions, depending on the area's size and the volume of fat being addressed.

What To Expect During Treatment

Kybella treatment begins with a consultation to evaluate the treatment area and create a personalized plan. Before injections, the area is marked and cleaned. A topical or local anesthetic may be used, and ice packs may be applied to improve comfort.

Kybella is then injected into multiple points in the targeted area. The number of injections depends on the amount of fat, the area being treated, and the planned dosage. After treatment, patients receive instructions on managing swelling and supporting recovery.

Kybella Downtime And Side Effects

Kybella is minimally invasive, but downtime is expected. Swelling is common and can be significant, especially after the first treatment session.

Common side effects may include:

  • Swelling
  • Numbness
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Temporary firmness in the treated area

Most patients can return to normal activities within a few days. Treatments should be scheduled with buffer time before major events, as swelling can persist for several days to a few weeks.

When Do Kybella Results Appear?

Kybella results develop gradually as the body breaks down and clears treated fat cells. Swelling may temporarily make the area appear fuller before improvement becomes visible.

Many patients begin to notice changes after a series of treatments. Results continue to refine over time as the treated area settles and fat reduction becomes more apparent.

How Much Does Kybella Cost?

The cost of Kybella varies based on the treatment area, the amount of fullness, the desired outcome, and the number of vials required. On average, Kybella is $600 per vial, and each treatment session may range from $1,200 to $2,400.

Because multiple sessions may be needed, the total cost varies by patient. Larger or off-label treatment areas may require more vials and additional sessions.
